Recipient – Ella Scaysbrook from  Club: Port Macquarie

The support from the De Groot family has been incredibly generous over a number of years and is continuing with their Scholarship for 2019.

Rob & Gail De Groot from Coffs Harbour feel it’s their pleasure to play a small part in promoting & progressing the junior girls in our area and give them something to strive for.

The scholarship is awarded to a junior girl in the WGCNC district (Woolgoolga to Bulahdelah) to support them financially to develop their game of golf.

The De Groot’s have had their own daughter Emma progress from a junior in the CNC district to being a professional on the LPGA tour. They understand the commitment required from parents to support their child to develop their game of golf and this is their way of giving back to the sport and the CNC district.

This year the Scholarship was awarded to Ella Scaysbrook from Port Macquarie Golf Club.

Ella (Age 13) started playing golf with the Port Junior’s, following in the footsteps of her Dad who is a keen golfer.

Today she is a regular participant in golf both at her club (Port Macquarie), all WGCNC Camps and JNJG events.

Some of her highlights in her budding golf career have been:

· Current Handicap: 4.5

· I first met Ella at a junior tournament in Port Macquarie when we had our Kew Camp in 2015, she has been playing for a little while with the Port Junior’s but was very keen on Physical Culture which was her main sport at the time. Since that initial contact, she has attended all our WGCNC camps and has now decided golf will be her main sport.

· Obtain her 18-hole handicap in January 2017 at 35.

· Ella played her first 18-hole event with the WGCNC Ladies Committee Day in Wauchope March 2017.

· August 2017 Ella played in her first JNJG event – Sub Junior International in Cessnock. Ella was the Girls 12 Years & Under Nett Winner.

· July 2018 Ella won her first JNJG State Age Championship Title – Aged 12.

· 2018 also saw Ella play in the Schools events for the first time. After winning the NSWCCC Under 15 Championships she was selected into the NSWCCC Golf Team.

· This has continued into 2019 with Ella winning the Year 8 Girls Scratch in the Years 7/8/9 Jack Newton Shield & placed 2nd Overall in May.

· As a result, Ella was selected into the NSW Under 15’s Schools Team to contest in the Australian Under 15’s later this year.

· Ella has also been selected into the Hunter Academy Programme which has seen her improve all areas of her golf for the last two years.

· Recently was the youngest junior to win the Port Macquarie Ladies Championship.

· Ella is a hardworking young lady keen to improve her golf skills at every opportunity.

· She is keen to pursue a golfing career & a wonderful ambassador for junior girl’s golf.

Congratulations Ella.
