Eliza Cross (Coffs Harbour) who has just obtained her 18 Hole handicap played in the North Coast PSSA Golf Championships this week at Yamba.
Eliza played in her first tournament at Port Macquarie, at our recent camp, and has already reduced her handicap from 41 to 29.6…. Very impressive.
Eliza took out the Girls 18 Holes and will now represent the North Coast in Camden/Narellan Lakeside in mid-September.

Junior Golf Camp – July 2018

Junior Golf Camp – July 2018

Port Macquarie Golf Camp July 2018

On the weekend of the 28th & 29th July 2018 WGCNC hosted its second golf camp for junior girls in the region to develop their game of golf.

Eighteen girls booked in to attend the Port Macquarie camp. It was great to see a small group of girls travel from North Sydney again. Thank you to JNJG for supporting their attendance, and Michael & Joan Flaherty who travelled with the girls.
James Single & Belinda Hodson (Professional’s Port Macquarie) & Brandon Connor (Professional Coffs Harbour), conducted the coaching on the Saturday, together with the assistance of WGCNC representative Verelle Miller.
The morning session consisted of stretching & warming up exercises on the range.
The coaches then moved around the girls assisting with grips, setup, alignment & 7 Iron swing basics, followed by shots 25-100m.
After lunch the girls split into three groups and headed back to the putting & bunker areas were they had tuition on technique and games based practice.
Brendon, James & Belinda then took the girls out onto the course to practice shot selection, etiquette and scoring in preparation for the tournament the next day.
To conclude the day, we conducted an informal interview with Belinda and allowed the girls & parents to ask questions of her experience & golfing career.

Our night activity was organised at Port’s T’s Tennis Resort. Here we had a BBQ with some fun playing Tennis and Putt Putt Golf. The girls appeared to really enjoy the evening and interacted well together.

Sunday morning we again gathered to participate in their junior tournament.
We had fifteen Girls participate in the 18 hole competition, and four girls in the 9 hole competition. Everyone enjoyed the tournament with plenty of support & prizes for all participants. During the 18 hole presentation I also presented Quedesha Golledge (Taree) with the 2018 Emma De Groot Scholarship which she was thrilled to receive.

Again the camp would not run successfully without the commitment of WGCNC, JNJG & Coaches, for which the girls and their parents are very grateful.
I would also like to thank Port Macquarie Golf Club, especially Chris Farrell for their assistance in organising this camp & tournament.
I look forward to our next camp organised for the 1st December 2018 at Tuncurry.
