Recipient – Madeleine Laws-Farrell
Club: Port Macquarie
The support from the De Groot family has been incredibly generous over a number of years and is continuing with their Scholarship for 2017.
Rob & Gail De Groot from Coffs Harbour feel it’s their pleasure to play a small part in promoting & progressing the junior girls in our area.
The scholarship is awarded to a junior girl in the WGCNC district (Woolgoolga to Bulahdelah) to support them financially to develop their game of golf. The financial assistance given each year can be used to either buy equipment, or used for golf lessons etc. to assist in their development.
The De Groot’s have had their own daughter Emma progress from a junior in the CNC district to now being a professional on the LPGA tour. They understand the commitment required from parents to support their child to develop their game of golf and this is their way of giving back to the sport and the CNC district.
This year the Scholarship is being awarded to Madeleine Laws-Farrell from Port Macquarie Golf Club. Madeleine (Age 14) has been involved with junior golf since coming to her first WGCNC Camp in 2013 at Wauchope as a beginner.
Today she is a regular participant in golf both at her club, all WGCNC Camps and JNJG events.
Some of her highlights in her budding golf career have been:
1) Selected in a team to travel with JNJG to New Zealand in 2015 – Quote “had an awesome tour, learnt loads played some good golf which including her first birdie & also first birdie attempt on a par 5, made some great friends & saw an amazing country !”
2) Madeleine played at the JNJG State Age Championships last year for the first time and was the only player in the entire field (both boy and girl) to finish the week under par, claiming the Girls Junior Salver for her impressive -15 score.
Madeleine played again in this year’s JNJG State Age Championships on the Central Coast and was quoted “I loved every second with my favourite people around the sport I love the most”.
Her mannerisms both on and off the course are exemplary and shows maturity beyond her years.
Her current GA handicap is 13.9 with her goal this year to become a single figure golfer.
The WGCNC Committee have endorsed the De Groot’s selection and now on their behalf I would like to present Madeleine with her Scholarship.
Congratulations Madeleine
